Annual herbs 50 cm tall. Dichotomously branched,hispid,covered with spreading hirsute glandular hairs. Leaves opposite, elliptic.oblanceolate or obovate, attenuate at base. Heads yellow; ray flowers ligulate, disc flowers tubular 5 lobed. Achenes triangular,covered with stiff hooked bristles and with divergent awns at apex.

Acanthospermum from Morni Hills:
This is Acanthospermum hispidum from Morni Hills of Haryana. Was shot in October 2010, near JBT Institute of Morni village.

Family : Asteraceae
Small annual herb. 50cm height. Stem erect. Branches dichotomous covered with  glandular hairs.
Leaves opposite sessile 3-7 cm elliptic obovate attenuate at base hairy.
Flowers sessile solitary axillary. Ray florets with yellow ligulate  corollas. Disc florets yellow tubular 5 lobed.
Involucral bracts-5, oblong lanceolate 5mm margins hairy.
Achenes triangular bristly awned at apex.

A stiff, erect or semi-erect, annual, hispid herb with axillary, rarely terminal, yellow heads. fruit spinous achenes, pappus none.

Acanthospermum hispidumDC. is an erect hispid hairy herb commonly found along water courses, abandoned fields, moist areas.
It is a native of Brazil and considered an Invasive Alien Species in India due to its weedy spread.It reaches up to 1500m in the hills of Uttarakhand.
Here it is photographed along road near Rudraprayag (700m) in Uttarakhand.
