In Fascicles of Flora of India-22. (Eds.-P.K. Hajra and M. Sanjappa; published by Botanical Survey of India) the account of Indian Campanulaceae was written by V.K. Haridasan and P.K. Mukerjee.
As per this document Haridasan & Mukerjee(1996) following species of Codonopsis occur in India:
  1. Codonopsis affinis Hook.f.et Thoms.
  2. C. benthamii Hook.f. et Thoms.
  3. C. clematidea (Schrenk) C.B. Clarke
  4. C. dicentrifolia (C.B. Clarke) W.W. Smith
  5. C. foetens Hook.f. & Thoms.
  6. C. griffithii C.B. Clarke [synonym of C. viridis Wall.]
  7. C. ovata Benth.
  8. C. purpurea Wall.
  9. C. rotundifolia Benth.
  10. C. subsimplex Hook.f & Thoms.
  11. C. thalictrifolia Wall.
  12. C. viridis Wall.
Scrutiny of these names indicate that one is a synonym. Since two species of Campanumoea known in India (C. inflata, C. javanica as described by Haridasan & Mukerjee,1996) are now placed in Codonopsis genus (in TPL) it adds two more species to Codonopsis list. Accordingly, Codonopsis now have 14 species.
    13. Codonopsis inflata Hook.f.
   14. C. javanica (Blume) Hook.f. & Thomson

I have updated eFI (efloraofindia) page on Codonopsis

Attempts have been made to incorporate most of the species available in India & nearby areas with details & keys directly or through links as far as possible. It’s quite possible that there may be some discrepancy in the accepted names & synonyms taken from other links.

Species discussed so far in efloraofindia are given at the bottom of the page in the form of links against Subpages. On clicking them one can see all the details.

If someone can provide complete list of Indian species with source references it will be wonderful.
Any comments/ corrections are welcome.

I have added the list of indian species of Codonopsis based on Haridasan and Mukerjee (1996).

Thanks a lot, …

Species at other links seem to match with it quite well.
Codonopsis lanceolata (Cultivated) & Codonopsis pilosula (Cultivated) are cultivated, while Codonopsis gracilis may have been treated under Leptocodon gracilis (Hook.f. & Thomson) Lem.

Codonopsis vadsea seems to be a new publication.

Codonopsis gracilis is treated as Leptocodon gracilis (Hook.f. & Thoms.) Lem. in Haridasan and Mukerjee (1996). C.vadsea is obviously a recently described species in the official journal of Botanical Survey of India (Nelumbo, earlier known as Bulletin of Botanical Survey of India) which in only published in printed form.

C. vadsea should be included now in the list of Indian species of Codonopsis.

I have updated all genera eFI (efloraofindia) pages on Campanulaceae (Pl. click).

Pl. go through Codonopsis page (‎‎‎Campanulaceae) with images of species in efloraofindia (done by …).

If you find any mis-identification, pl. let us know.

If anybody can send images of other species of this genera (for incorporation in the website), it will be really nice. Also, if anybody is interested to take up the activity of inserting images on efloraofindia pages from efloraofindia posts, pl. let us know.

Some images at Codonopsis rotundifolia look similar to images at Codonopsis viridis
May I request you to pl. go through & point out mistakes if any.
