Is it Cymbidium pendulum, orchidaceae: 5 posts by 3 authors. Attachments (2)

Habitat- Green house
Date- 20-5-2016
Place- Chandigarh

May I know who you are and where is the plant from? Obviously its not found in wild in Chandigarh.
Can you please post more pics. I can see the plant in the back ground but I imagine why you posted such pics with less than half character.

I would say this is Cymbidium aloifolium

yes I have to agree with …, both may will feel same but C.aloifolium is smaller than C.pendulum in all aspects.
please comment on my view.
Both plants are available in Kerala forests especially southern Kerala.

Sir actually this plant is in the Botanical garden (Green house) of Panjab university Chandigarh
I don’t know from where it was collected
Sorry for the less images

A closeup of the flower would be more helpful. I consider this as Cymbidium aloifolium if found in India. But identification from not so good images are always tentative.

Orchidaceae Fortnight:: Cymbidium Sp. (NSJ-09) : Attachments (2). 3 posts by 3 authors.
Cymbidium (Bicolor) sp. from Sikkim (Apr-09)

Depending on perception this could be either Cymbidium bicolor or Cymbidium aloifolium.
Many people say the one with dark band on flower is aloifolium based on the original description in Hortus Malabaricus where as other is Cymbidium bicolor without bands.

This should be Cymbidium aloifolium.

.

Cymbidium aloifolium:
I am a bit confused about the ID of this sp.
http://www.flowersofindia.Aloe%20Leaf%20Cymbidium.html
Link

Ok

I dug up a bit more.
So let me confuse you guys more.
There is a monograph on Cymbidium by Puy and Cribb
They write:
Side lobes of the lip not exceeding the column, and anther cap, obtuse to sub-acute, finely mottled with maroon or red-brown ——– C. bicolor.
Side lobes of the lip longer than the column and anther cap, acute, veined with maroon —— C. aloifolium
So lets follow this from now on and change the labels accordingly.
Here the side lobes are not exceeding the column and anther cap…. so this should be C. bicolor.
