grasses for id:  1 correct image.
Request id for these grasses. They were taken at my place: Suchindrum- Kanyakumari dist.

First two pictures of Setaria glauca, Third is Dactyloctenium aegyptium, 4-5 may be member of Cyperaceae (Scleria???).

Yes …

Is Scleria a confirmed id? These were growing at the banks of a small water canal at the back of my house. Very profusely growing with the floral heads hanging down.

P1230435 and P1230437 is Setaria verticillata. Try running your fingers from bottom of the inflorescene to the top. Check whether your fingers run smooth or interrupted.
P1230488 is Dactyloctenium aegyptium

I have a few more which I am posting here for id. Request you or others for your views

a. P1230567 is Pennisetum sp., probably P.pedicellatum, but since the photo is of a drenched inflorescence, I cannot confirm. Only other possibility is P.polystachyon. Kindly pluck out one spkilelet, open up the bristles to reveal the usually three florets inside and take a photograph.
b.P1230652 and P1230653 is Chloris barbata.
c. Regarding P1230504, it is a deformed panicle. Kindly send a photograph of a full panicle and a close up of the spikelet.

I think Dactyloctenium sp…

most probably Dactyloctenium aristatum Link

It is
Dactyloctenium aegyptium
It shows variation in inflorescence

dactyloctenium aristatum

Could be Dactyloctenium aristatum,

Dactyloctenium aegyptium. The racemes are fewer in number and plants shorter in stature probably due to grazing by cattle. In areas of cattle grazing or lawn mowing by machines, many grasses appear in dwarf forms with abnormal inflorescences rather than their full form.

I am not aware of much, and I am rather afraid of grasses, because of lot of size variation.

Today morning only, matter of Dactylectenium came up in a conversation in another group. On my walk I did find 2 types of it, and I have a third type which is exactly like the specimen in this post. Peculiarity of this type is, it appeared after first rains ….never grew more than 10 cm, on main axis spikelet was one held at an angle in 99%, 1% had two, usually tip bare ……it dried and died fast, in a month even though rains were more than normal. Why I got curious…..crowfoot grass is something I am familiar with since early childhood. I do not remember its dwarf edition.
Just now I visited the subpages, sadly I could not find much useful.
I think I should make a post …..either my 3 types together , or one by one ? …?

Thanks, …, I think one by one should be OK to start with.

one by one, … is better. than everybody who knows about grasses can chip in.
and in the end when … makes a page there would be compilation of a lot of info.

Sure sir. In a day or two. Let me organize my images and get them to size

Dactyloctenium geminatum ?

Dactyloctenium geminatum is not mentioned in Grasses of Maharashtra G.G. Potdar et al (2012) so the chances are less likely.

dactyloctenium aegypticum

Dactyloctenium aegyptium (L.) Willd.

Dactyloctenium aegyptium, but a variation with only two racemes instead of the usual 4.
