Taken at a plant nursery at Nasik on the 1st of Dec,11.
A cultivated, ornamental plant.
Name given to me was Musa Palm by the staff at the nursery.
Is it Musa superba or Rock Banana as in FOI ?
Kindly validate.

Would go with Musa superba (synonym of Ensete superbum).

Yes, Ensete superbum from me too.

Requesting to please ID this plant captured at Sinhagad, Pune, in Aug 2014.
Is this Ensete superbum? There were many such plants on the slopes around.

I just checked the net. the pictures look similar to Ensete glaucum. Please check

Thanks … I did not know of E. glaucum !!
Need to get aware of any quick difference that separates it from E. superbum.

I will need to check my sightings from Tung near Amby Valley.

Looking at this picture it is very difficult to identify the species. The wild bananas are germinated from seed so one can see banana seedling even on the roof of a building.

Yes you are right.

Just want to clarify. Does … means Ensete superbum?.

yes

Being a wild banana from W.Ghats, it is most probably Ensete superbum.

Thanks … I was a bit skeptical about E. glaucum in wilderness of Western Ghats.

Yes it is Ensete superbum

Here is the link to a relevant article which discusses the distribution of these wild bananas.

Quoting from the article “…Only Ensete superbum was reported from India in early 1960s from Western Peninsula region, Bombay to Madras. Ensete glaucum naturally distributed in Burma, Thailand, China, Laos, Viet Nam, Philippine, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands up to Java and its probable existence in India was reported by Simonds (1960)…Despite of  its (E. glaucum)  wild occurrences  in  Eastern  Ghats  and Eastern Himalayan region of India and reports in modern floras of India and Nepal; still uncertainty exists regarding its wild existence…

Thank you v4ery very much … for the link and quote.

We saw this plantain tree (Banana) (Local Name Kallu bal`e meaning stone plantain) variety which seems to have adapted rather well to the rocky hill slopes of Unchalli falls. They grow naturally on their own and appear less than a meter or two.
Tall beautiful  green trees surround the valley (viewed through a binocular) and throw up a landscape so beautiful that will tempt any painter to bring his easel and brush and capture it for posterity on a canvass.
Would like to know the scientific name of this plantain tree species.
Local Name: kallu bal`e (rock Plantain)
Place Unchalli falls, Uttara Kannada, Western ghats
Habitat: Rocky hill slopes.
