Hopefully a Moraceae member and Ficus for sure but not sure about the species !!

Could it be a species of Baccaurea

i have a doubt of it being a ficus member, although at first look it gives an appearance of Ficus.

I think … is right!! Baccaurea sapida fruits are edible and commonly available throuoght NE.

In Baccaurea sapida the fruits comes out from the trunk and all over the woody parts just like in this plant but are always in a bunch but in this plant the fruits are solitarily attached to the stem. Hence not quite sure regarding this plant being Baccaurea sapida.

But Baccaurea fruits are very small. In the photos the fruits look very big

Oh I dint mean to say that the plant is B. sapida.
Hope our Moraceae expert … is reading this thread.

Any chance of Flacourtia sps.? Not sure!

Just a wild guess,

Not Ficus for sure but may be some Sapotaceae.

Gynocordia odorataFlacourtiaceae

this is Ficus hispida. I have quite a few of them.
http://www.biotik.org/india/species/f/ficuhisp/ficuhisp_en.html

I have seen this fruit in our market for sale (Dombivli) and seen the tree with fruits during a trek near Mahuli (Shahapur). Do not know the english name. Appearance is like Chikoo.

… the leaves do not seem to agree with Ficus hispida, normally oppositely arranged, else subopposite … the shape and texture too looks different.
More comment(s) required.

I agree with … The plant in picture is not Ficus hispida for sure. The leaves are completely different from those of F. hispida and the fruits of F.hispida are green when unripe and turns black when ripe unlike fruits of the plant in picture.

Gynocordia odorataFlacourtiaceae

As suggested by  …, I find this fruiting tree closer to the ID “*Gynocordia odorata* – Flacourtiaceae“.
Reference: Google books :The Trees of the Sikkim Himalaya
By Topdhan Rai, Lalitkumar Rai
Species Page -65
Many of the tree features do agree…
Tree -height 30 meters
Bark – Smooth and grey
Habitat – Lower Hill Forest,
Altitude -4000feet agree
Round fruits arising straight from stem
Leaves are smooth allover, oblong to oblong-lanceolate, Reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Gynocardia_odorata_Roxburgh.jpg
Poisonous, (Our forest guide at joypur said the same – Not suitable for food)
Attached cropped and closeup images of the same tree for slightly better visibility and help

Any idea about the likely family as no success so far for id?

It looks like Gynocardia odorata of Achariaceae of Malpighiales
