the entire tree.

Obviously an ornamental garden shrub – a species of Ixora

I’ll hazard a guess, if its fragrant when flowers first open… and soon get brown…it would be…Ixora parviflora….just saw two ..one in Howrah and another in calcutta…

yes it is fragrant when it first blooms

Ixora alba L., Sp. Pl. 1753: 110

Ixora for ID : 190611 : AK-2:
Taken at Maharashtra Nature Park, Mumbai on the 6th of April, 2011.
Had a mild fragrance…..Lokhandi?

Pavetta species.

… could it be garden cultivar of Ixora coccinea OR chinensis OR javanica

Please check with Ixora pavetta or Ixora parviflora but surely not I. coccinea or I. chinensis

Ixora parviflora is synonym of I. pavetta
It can’t be I. pavetta as the crolla tube is much longer here
It could be be I. polyantha or I. finlaysoniana https://groups.google.com/group/indiantreepix/browse_thread/thread/5b…

I guess Ixora parviflora Vahl is synonym of I. pavetta and not I. parviflora Lamk. and it very much exist in gardens of Mumbai. Ixora polyantha is very much distinct than rest of the Ixora in flower character. but really its tuff to identify this kind of plant with photographs.

red & reddish yellow Ixora sp.:  Found this Ixora sp. in The Agri-Horticultural Society of India, today. This plant is a bit smaller than my previous post, “giant Ixora sp“, and the corolla segments here are ovate. Could it be Ixora chinensis Lam.?

Species : Ixora chinensis Lam. ?

Date : 25-05-12, 12.50 p.m.
Place : The Agri-Horticultural Society of India, Alipore, Calcutta (Kolkata)
Please, note that the images were taken from two different individuals, but one both the plants were bearing red & reddish yellow flowers.

i think determination to species level of certain Ixora sp. should be done only after physical examination by experts. Some info on identification of Ixora, using genetic markers, can be found at – aob.oxfordjournals.org/content/80/3/355.full.pdf, also attaching the file for future use in the group.
