Ixora arborea or Ixora parviflora;
the entire tree.
Obviously an ornamental garden shrub – a species of Ixora.
I’ll hazard a guess, if its fragrant when flowers first open… and soon get brown…it would be…Ixora parviflora….just saw two ..one in Howrah and another in calcutta… yes it is fragrant when it first blooms Ixora alba L., Sp. Pl. 1753: 110 Another thread relating to the same plant: Ixora for ID : 190611 : AK-2: Pavetta species. … could it be garden cultivar of Ixora coccinea OR chinensis OR javanica ? Please check with Ixora pavetta or Ixora parviflora but surely not I. coccinea or I. chinensis Ixora parviflora is synonym of I. pavetta I guess Ixora parviflora Vahl is synonym of I. pavetta and not I. parviflora Lamk. and it very much exist in gardens of Mumbai. Ixora polyantha is very much distinct than rest of the Ixora in flower character. but really its tuff to identify this kind of plant with photographs. Arunachal shrub for ID_RKC08_180811: ID plz.

Besides its ornamental use and its medicinal properties it is also a host plant of the Monkey Puzzle (Rathinda amor) butterfly. I also attach two photos featuring the butterfly one of which displays an egg (the white spot in the middle of the inflorescence) of the butterfly.
I would also like to add that … of ‘ButterflyIndia’ (facebook) group helped me identify the egg of the same butterfly in the related photograph. Further, mango trees are also host of this butterfly.

red & reddish yellow Ixora sp.: Found this Ixora sp. in The Agri-Horticultural Society of India, today. This plant is a bit smaller than my previous post, “giant Ixora sp“, and the corolla segments here are ovate. Could it be Ixora chinensis Lam.?

Please, note that the images were taken from two different individuals, but one both the plants were bearing red & reddish yellow flowers.
i think determination to species level of certain Ixora sp. should be done only after physical examination by experts. Some info on identification of Ixora, using genetic markers, can be found at – aob.oxfordjournals.org/content/80/3/355.full.pdf, also attaching the file for future use in the group.
