Locally known as wayati.
Well known at Mahabaleshwar for its honey.
Have seen at Tungareshwar Wildlife Sanctuary and Sanjay Gandhi National Park.
Strobilanthes perfoliatus, Strobilanthes perfoliata, Mackenziea integrifolia … all these names appear in some or other sites.
Do not know which among these has resolved to be the accepted name.

Strobilanthes perfoliatus, T. Anderson as per “Flora of the Presidency of Bombay by T. Cooke”.
Strobilanthes perfoliata T.Anderson as per Plant list but it is unresolved name.
Endopogon integrifolius & Mackenziea integrifolia are synonyms as per Plant list.

An unresolved name in The Plant List is a reflection on them, not in any way on the publications which consider it accepted name. So simply ignore such entry in the Plant List.

Both Endopogon and Mackenziea are not recognized genera, even by The Plant List. So ignore them both also, treat simply as synonyms only if they are done in any established publication.

Knowledge regarding species of Strobilanthes and its sibling genera, is not easily available.
Hoping we have someone who can provide knowledge regarding the species’ distribution AND description.

yes this is Leptacanthes integrifolia Syn. Mackenziea integrifolia.
… we were very lucky to see this sporadic flowering
…for the other bushes of Wayti were not flowering

In some bamboo species when the sporadic flowering occurs, the seeds are not viable and upside is the bamboo does not die after the sporadic flowering DOES THE SAME THING HAPPEN IN CASE OF Wayti and Karvi also for recently we also noted sporadic flowering of Karvi at SGNP

The mass flowering, I observed, at Lonavala was in 2007

Please help identify shrub in attached pictures. The shrub along with few other species occupied both sides of small hill roads. Special thing to note that they were growing in very shady area.

The flowers would have helped. Similar looking plant (habit and habitat in Matheran) … I have labelled my plants as Strobilanthes lupulinus Nees … here is my post.
I think this is  Mackenziea integrifolia (Dalzell) Bremek. a synonym of Strobilanthes perfoliata T.Anderson.
I’m unable to see the leaf texture from your pictures, but the leaf shape is matching. This plant does grow in shady places.
Karvi likes open sunny locations, although it can also grow in shade.

Thank you so much … Yes there were similar looking plants in the same habitat.
Leaves of the plants attached in pictures does have entire margine as in Mackenziea integrifolia description. Leaf shape and venation match to Mackenziea integrifolia. Leaf texture of the plants attached in pictures was not wooly, hairy.
Have one more picture of other plant, similar looking. Will start new thread for it from database management perspective.

Seen this profusely flowering at Matheran, an hill station near Mumbai, MH in the last week of December 2020.
Hoping this Strobilanthes perfoliata (Mackenziea integrifolia).
