This plant was growing on our wasteland.
It smells like basil.
May I request you to please help in ID of this plant.

Is it Ocimum basilicum?

I think O. gratissimum

too me it looks like O. americanum

It looks like sabja plant from which we get the Sabja seeds used in falooda.

I think … is right

I think this is a hybrid between O. basilicum X O. americanum, so the name should be Ocimum x africanum Lour. But I am not sure. What do you think?

Correct botanical name please.

On searching, Vaijayanti seems to be a common name for Ocimum gratissimum.

Experts, kindly confirm.

It is Ocimum gratissimum L.

Ocimum americanum L., Cent. Plant. 1: 15. 1755.
After lot of searching I finally was able to photograph O. americanum yesterday from Herbal Garden in Lodhi Garden, Delhi. The plant with general habit of O. basilicum (with touch of O. sanctum) has distinctively smaller flowers.

this ID needs reconsideration

All other photographs at the species page appears OK except this one.

Appears more close to Ocimum gratissimum L. as per images and details herein.

Yes, … That’s why, I had asked for reconsideration.

This has been identified by …, ex Deputy Director of the Maharashtra  Nature Park, as Ocimum americana, an invasive plant.

I think more closer to images at Ocimum gratissimum L. rather than Ocimum americanum L.

Name was given as Pandharpuri Tulsi.
The leaf had a peculiar taste.

Ocimum Species for ID : Nasik : 06JAN22 : AK – 06: 4 images.
One more Ocimum Species from the same plant nursery.

The name in Marathi was given as Lavangi, that is the flavor of cloves.
The leaf tasted exactly like a clove.
For Species id please.

Pl. post high res. image of the last one.
It may turn out to be same as at Ocimum Species for ID : Nasik : 06JAN22 : AK – 05

This had a distinct taste of cloves.
Not like the other one.
I will try to get the botanical names.

Clove basil is Ocimum gratissimum L.
Maybe this one, though leaves look a bit variant (may be due to hybrids).

There are a few Scholarly articles on Ocimum Species with leaves having the taste of clove.
Very confusing.
