Erect herbs; stem 4-angled, laxly villous. Leaves 1-3.5x 0.8-2 cm, elliptic to oblong, base rounded to obtuse, apex acute, chartaceous, densely pubescent with long hairs on both sides, 3-ribbed; petiole to 6 mm long. Flowers few in terminal cymose clusters, 4-merous, c. 1.5 cm across. Calyx tube 2-4 mm wide, cupular, ribbed, long-simple hairy; lobes 4, 2-4 mm long, triangular, stellately bristly at apex. Petals pink, 4-6 x 3-4 mm, ovate. Stamens 8; anthers 2-4 mm long, ovate-oblong, apex truncate. Ovary 4-locular, apically with many erect bristles. Capsule 4-6 mm long, globose. Seeds many, minute.

Osbeckia muralis Naudin of Melastomataceae family.
Photographed from Sringeri, Karnataka 3 days back.
Probably the smallest among all Osbeckia spp.
Plant height is hardly 10cm sometimes reaches 15cm. Sometimes branched
Flowers are small.

Wow, …, actually I have seen them growing on ridges along roadsides and forest trek paths where some canopy gap is available.

Herb with exceptionally beautiful flowers found growing amidst ferns in a rocky boulder. 
IISER campus adjoining Agasthyamalai biosphere reserve.
Flowers are purple, tetramerous. Leaves are densely hairy.
