Porpax reticulata

Pseudobulbs discoid, covered with long sheaths of reticulate nerves, 5 x 2 cm, broadly ovate, spathulate, obtuse. Flowers deep brownish red, from the base of pseudobulbs; bracts 6 x 7 mm, suborbicular, retuse, denticulate; sepals united to form a campanulate tube, 14 x 6 mm, saccate at base, 3-lobed at apex, densely papillose outside; lobes ovate, acute; petals 8 x 3 mm, subfalcately spathulate, acute, papillose; lip 5 x 4 mm, panduriform, 3-lobed, toothed; lateral lobes erect, ovate, obtuse; midlobe suborbicular, obtuse, denticulate, papillose.

Deeply regret for not being active on internet from last couple of months due to busy schedule but not away from flora of Matheran and around. Posting a collage pic of Porpax reticulata, of Orchidaceae family, photographed in May & June`13.

It is wild and there are hundreds of these at Matheran

Seen this Gramophone Orchid at Anshi Ghat.

This is one of the cutest orchid I have seen only in photographs.

Nice shots … I think your hobby of trekking brings us wonderful wild flowers which otherwise difficult to see. ‘Wandering one gathers honey’

Thanks … Indeed a wonder ! … I doubt I would have ever got to it all by myself – and now that I know about it, it is difficult to understand that it belongs to Orchidaceae !
