Rosaceae Fortnight: Rubus ulmifolius from Kashmir-GSSEP101/101 : 1 post by 1 author. Attachments (4) Rubus ulmifolius, photographed from Srinagar Kashmir After prolonged confusion over Rubus ulmifolius and Rubus sanctus, the current understanding is that the two are different species. Rubus ulmifolius is a European species and has no distribution in Kashmir, not even in West Asia. The accepted name for Rubus sanctus, is Rubus creticus, and is believed to be native to West Himalaya, in addition to E. Medit. to Turkmenistan. So, all sightings of Rubus ulmifolius from Kashmir should logically be taken as Rubus creticus. It grows wild in Kashmir and kids there love eating the black-colored berries. Yes …, the species described by FBI as R. fruticosus var discolor (based on R. discolor Weihe & Nees; Boiss) was considered as R. ulmifolius in Flora Afghanistan, which we followed for many years. Our plant is now considered as synonym of R. creticus Tourne ex L. by POWO. Thanks for digging it out. In fact there is lot of confusion regarding R. discolor. Our Plant is R. discolor Boise (synonym of R. creticus Tourne ex L., not R. discolor Weihe & Nees which is synonym of R. ulmifolius. Rosaceae Week_ ID Request- Srinagar-041011PKA!:
Requesting you all to kindly help me with the ID.. Date/Time: 24-09-2011 / 08:30AM Location: Srinagar, near Dal Lake. Habitat: Planted (Seen on the compound wall of a hotel). Rubus ulmifolius please I have some doubt about the leaves. The of my plant were sort of Trifoliate where as Leaves for Rubus ulmifolius as mentioned in FOI site are compound with 5 leaflets. No … Most leaves are trifoliate. Only a few basal ones may be 5-foliate. This plant I had compared with R. discolor (name given in FBI) and discussed in my thesis. No doubts please!!! But then those leaves shown in FOI in second and third photograph actually don’t belong to this species. There is some mix up. They are two species. I will upload soon in this week.
It should be Rubus creticus as per discussions at Rosaceae Fortnight: Rubus ulmifolius from Kashmir-GSSEP101/101 Thanks, …, for pointing it out and … for confirmation.
