Lamiaceae & Verbenaceae Week: Lamiaceae Plant for ID SMP 07/07/2011:
observed this Lamiaceae plant in SF Bot. park. in Jun 11.
Can this be Lavandula Silver frost?
In a separate thread I am posting Lavandula Silver frost plant without flower; but I doubt this is same or not(This was close to the labelled plant)

This is Salvia.
If in Botanical Garden it could be Himalayan Salvia moorcroftiana

Dachigam wildflower ID: SJ-26May2012 – Flower 1:
Dachigam WLS is full of wild flowers. The photos were taken last week.
Would much appreciate ID help.

Good that you visited Dachhigam. I have already visited it twice this month. This is Salvia moorcroftiana, a common herb on dry slopes, roadsides and wastelands in Kashmir.

Salvia lanata from Kishtwar J&K:

Kindly confirm ID
Bot. name: Salvia lanata
Family: Lamiaceae
Location: Kishtwar J&K
Altitude: 1600 m asl
Date: 15th April 2012

It resembles closely to S.lanata. BUT please do not rely only on photo-identification, check with hard core taxonomic literature and specimen comparison (if you are a research worker in plant sciences).

Looking at the relative size of basal leaves and inflorescence, I think it is Salvia moorcroftiana.
Salvia lanata: leaves 5-10 cm long, mostly basal, less than 3 cm broad, inflorescence mostly unbranched, flowers violet to blue
Salvia moorcroftiana: leaves 10-25 cm long, 4-15 cm broad, inflorescence branched, flowers lilac.

Thanks a lot for your detailed inputs…
