I was looking for the characteristic pods. If you have access to the plant please post a picture with fully grown pods. The young pods seen here look slightly different I suppose.

Can you please ID this plant species – a shrub with bright yellow flowers; an ornamental as well as a medicinal plant. Leaves and flowers are edible. Cassia/Senna? Photo taken in North Sri Lanka in Oct 2012.

Senna alata

Yes …, you are right, Senna alata (L.) Roxb.

This species looks pretty good thus used as ornamental. But be aware, it is an invasive alien species.

Please some pod pictures too if accessible.

I fail to remember if I have pod pictures in my archive, …, most probably not, and perhaps they won’t be available right now as I anticipate noting the flowering time. Hope I won’t forget it and share by the end of this year.

I just wrote because I know you will get it. Nothing urgent. Just wanted to share that they are characteristic square in cross section and unique for the species.

Yes, …, I have noticed the strange fruit pictures in the net. I may have one in my archive, but presently fail to find some of my records. Maybe I have deleted those unknowingly! I recorded this species more than once in different places and time. I have shared the 2nd record in this thread. Somewhere in my hard disk there should be more records!

Leaves were unusually large and had closed at night.

Eager to know the id.
