– quite, interestingly the seed pods are very different…. even if the flowers may cause confusion in the first look… with s. alata… thanks… got to see S. alata seedpods this weekend….very different from you pic number two.
Plant for ID 15/12/09 SMP 3: Some Cassia ? Cassia alata, the candle bush This could be Senna didymobotrya (Cassia didymobotrya) looks similar to Candle bush. Cassia alata and C. didymobotrya look similar but former has much larger leaflets reaching often more than 5 cm long, whereas latter has usually shorter leaflets (less than 5 cm); stipules are 6-9 mm long and persistent in C. alata, but 10-25 mm long in C. didymobotrya. The clinching feature is winged fruits of C. alata.
In this photo the leaflets look definitely much longer than flowers (in C. didymobotrya leaflets not much longer than flowers in photographs I saw on the net), although stipules also look much larger (like C. didymobotrya). …, if you some photographs showing fruits it could clinch the issue. last week i was in Munnar and i got a chance to observed this plant which i feel is Cassia didymobotrya as i have closely observed C. alata which is definately not this plant. However i was not able to observe the fruits, also could not take the photographs. but sure about it not being C. alata.
