“Do you know the botanical name for puwaadiya, a weed here.
But I learn that it is a veggie used by bhils and the seeds make a great substitute for coffee.
Wanted to know more about it.”
I think the plant in question is Senna tora (L.) Roxb. [syn. Cassia tora L.]. Family: Leguminosae. One of the Gujarati names of this plant – પુવાડિયો – is also similar to the one you have mentioned. I think you’ve got it. Will inform my friend. An image check will give the confirmation.
… is correct sounds like its Cassia tora in Gujarat and Kutchh variously known as Puwadiyo, Kumvadiyoa in Gujarat and Saurashtra and in Kutchh as Pumwar etc.
What I also would appreciate iis :
A: pictures and more importantly:
B: how do they use it, when and what age
do men and women both use it? Many thanks …, Have asked my friend, an organic farmer, to send pictures and how the Bhil tribals use this plant. At what age, genderwise. Will keep the group posted.
He did mention when I sent him … reply that the Bhils call it Puwadiyo and that he had wrongly called it Puwadiya.
