It is a small tree with drooping branches, and grey-green leaves. The tree is very attractive when in full bloom from March to April. The flowers are large tubular bright yellow occuring in bunches of 5 to 10.

It grows in the wild in the desert areas of Rajasthan, Haryana, and Punjab.

This tree is found in India, mainly in the dry regions or in the desert.

Lahura tree- Kolkata:
sharing the pic of a Lahura tree (Tecoma undulata) in full bloom.
The bird perched on its branch is a Greater Coucal.
It is a small tree with drooping branches, and grey-green leaves. The tree is very attractive when in full bloom from March to April. The flowers are large tubular bright yellow occuring in bunches of 5 to 10.
It grows in the wild in the desert areas of Rajasthan, Haryana, and Punjab.
But it is extensively planted as an avenue tree, as this one planted in Kolkata near my house.

The bird is Crow pheasant – Centropus sinensis. In Malayalam we call in Chemboth and it is a found on the coconut and banana plantations.

Yes …….but Greater Coucal is the alternative name of Crow Pheasant.
Birdwatchers prefer to call this bird by the first name.

Is this the same tree that was called Tecoma argentea?

1. Tecoma argentea is not a synonym of Tecoma undulata.
2. According to GRIN T. argentea is synonym of Tecomella undulata.
3. Tecoma argentea is synonym of Tabebuia aurea (GRIN).

In Haryana Villagers call it tidda midda. The bird of course is Crow Pheasant and is also known Kauchal.

Found many trees in a village called Bowshar. Seen only in this village, not anywhere else.

Could catch the last of the flowering in June, hope to get better pictures next year.

Tree identified from the book ‘Wild Plants of Oman’.
Could not come across any fruits/pods.

Wanted to see this for a long time, finally saw this this summer near Barmer, RJ in March 2018. The colour of the flowers varied from deep red to yellow
