This is not a cactus but its origin is the same, the american continent, probably Mexico. It is an Agave sp. There are many species in cultivation, the most commonly known is the Agave americana, which can be seen growing in many places worldwide. The flowerstalk can be very tall and the leaves each more than a meter long.
