is very popular in botanical gardens esp. australia and bermuda etc so far apart geographically yet these place grow the same exotics
is it native of india or australia ? i am never quite sure

… the FOI says it is native to Indonesia…!

that makes sense. that’s why all bot gardens that want to show tropical exotic flowers choose it and its family

Thattekad, Kerala

It is Zingiber sp.

May be Etlingera elatior? Is it cultivated?

Many Thanks to …
The flowering season is long over and therefore there were no flowers. Even so, there were many birds in the evening (Indian Pitta, Orange-headed Ground Thrush etc.)
The plant did seem cultivated as it was on a private property.
Height of plant: 10 feet, erect but curved [Its specific epithet elatior means tall, which refers to the plant height.]
Habitat: Shade ++, on forest floor.
Once again, many thanks for the quick replies and identity.
