Please help to id this shrub found planted at a Botanical Garden in Kodaikanal, TN

Plant Habit-shrub
Height/Length- ca. 2 m
Leaves Type/ Shape/ Size- c. 6 x 3 cm
Inflorescence Type/ Size- terminal raceme
Flowers Size/ Colour/ Calyx/ Bracts- pink; 1cm across; 2cm long


I suppose Escallonia macrantha

Looking again at pictures and having clicked a lot this year in California, I am convinced that this is not E. macrantha which is now considered as E. rubra var. macrantha. It is characterised by glandular viscid stems, pedicels and calyx (rather a key character), which is lacking in these photographs. Please see this from KEW website:

I think above plant should be Escallonia ‘Apple Blossom’

To me it looks different.
