Plant for ID-PC-16-13.10.2015 : 8 posts by 4 authors. Attachments (2)
please identify the plant from Baijnath, Uttarakhanda.

flowers are not in focus. do you by any chance have more pictures in your files? which may better focused?
I suggest if your camera is able to then take some 3 to 7 bursts in one click it can be programmed in most cameras now a days
then you can be sure that one of the bursts or series would be in focus
I found in a recent trip that when rushing to keep up with the fellow travellers I could not look to see if i got  every part in focus
this burst came in handy, but i had learnt it at the tail end of the trip!!! ☺😕!but it may come in handy in future. It may help you too!

Looks like Salvia lanata (Lamiaceae).

is there a synonym or sets of synonyms for this because i dont find this on our salvia page at efi site although there a few several threads for this diagnosis

Yes … !  Salvia lanata Roxb. is now named as Salvia mukerjeei Bennet & Raizada

It is surprising that we do not have S.mukerjeei (=S.lanata) in our database. It is not that much rare species. I may have to upload a clear pic of this species.

Thanks, … Salvia cana Wall. ex Benth., Edwards’s Bot. Reg. 15: t. 1292 (1830). (Syn: Salvia integrifolia Hardw., Asiat. Res. 6: 349 (1799), nom. illeg. ; Salvia lanata Roxb., Hort. Bengal.: 80 (1814), nom. illeg.; Salvia mukerjeei Bennet & Raizada, Indian Forester 108: 303 (1982). ; Stenarrhena lanata D.Don, Prodr. Fl. Nepal.: 111 (1825). ) as per WCSP

In a recent thread Usha Di noticed that we do not have Salvia mukerjeei Bennet & Raizada (=Salvia lanata Roxb.) in our database. Promila Ji have posted this species for ID in this post but pics are not very clear. In an earlier thread … have differentiated S.moorcroftiana and S.lanata (now S.mukerjeei)-

Salvia lanata: leaves 5-10 cm long, mostly basal, less than 3 cm broad, inflorescence mostly unbranched, flowers violet to blue
Salvia moorcroftiana: leaves 10-25 cm long, 4-15 cm broad, inflorescence branched, flowers lilac
I am attaching this species with a little better pics.
The plant is shot near Kosi, Almora in July 2012.
