20-30 mm long, slightly pubescent; spur nearly straight or slightly curved at tip, 14-19 mm long; follicles 5-9, up to 20 mm long. Perennial herb, branched, densely hairy specially in upper part; basal leaves twice to thrice ternate with long petioles, deeply lobed segments, barely 2-4 mm broad, upper gradually smaller, uppermost with 1-3 lanceolate segments; flowers white, several, nodding; sepals

If plant is pubescent or glandular, sepals obtuse ……. A. fragrans (Sepals 20-30 x 9-12 mm, whitish to purple, slightly pubescent, obtuse to acute as per Flora of Pakistan)
If plant is glaucous, sepals ovate acute ……. A. moorcroftiana (Sepals pale-purplish to blue-purple, 13-18 x 6-8 mm, acute or obtuse as per Flora of Pakistan)

Aquilegia fragrans from Nubra Valley- Ladakh (14/06/2011 NSJ-02):
Aquilegia fragrans from Nubra valley Ladakh. Photo taken last week.

The plant was photographed at Hendar (Nubra Valley) Ladakh, Altitude around 4000 m
found in a grass land, near by water stream, habitat-wild, plants were found up to 2 feet tall.

Observed this Aquilegis shrub at Nubra Valley, Ladakh – June 2011. Altitude Approx 11000′

The plant you have uploaded seems to be Aquilegis moorcroftiana

Beautiful Aquilegia species. Not seen here in Uttarakhand.
If plant is pubescent or glandular, sepals obtuse ……. A.fragrans
If plant is glaucous, sepals ovate acute ……………….. A.moorcroftiana (Based on Flora of India vol-1).

Here with some images of what I understand to be Aquilegia fragrans taken at 3000m, Keylong, Lahaul, H.P.
Plan to post more of this species incl. from Kashmir.
Can be hard to distinguish between some forms of A.moorcroftiana and A.fragrans.
