This plant atracts many many butterfly sps for necter. At a time plenty of butterfly sps can be seen feeding on Leea when the flowers open.

Shrubs to 2 m high; young branches, rachises, petioles, petiolules and inflorescences hairy to mealy-pubescent. Leaves alternate, 1 or 3-foliolate or 1-3 pinnate; if 1 or 3-foliolate; petioles to 20 cm long; rachises 10-15 cm long; stipules obovate, 2-6 x 1-4 cm; leaflets oblique, broadly ovate, oblong-ovate, elliptic or rhomboid, 15-60 x 10-50 cm, cordate at base, acute or short acuminate at apex; if 1-3 pinnate leaflets 7-21 or more, oblong, ovate-lanceolate or elliptic, 9-30 x 4-9 cm, rounded at base, serrate at margin, acuminate to caudate at apex, chartaceous to subcoriaceous, glabrous to sparsely hairy above, sparsely to densely hairy sometimes mealy-pubescent beneath; lateral nerves to 14 pairs, pubescent to hairy; petiolules to 25 mm long. Inflorescences 12-45 cm long, much branched; peduncles to 25 cm long; bracts deltoid to narrowly 3-angled, to 6 mm long; pedicels 1-2 mm long, pubescent. Flowers greenish white. Calyx 1.5-3 x 2.5-4 mm, 5-lobed, mealy-pubescent; lobes 3-angled, 0.75-1 x 0.8-1 mm. Corolla tube with staminal lobes 3-4 mm long; corolla lobes 5, linear-ovate, thick, 2-4 x 0.8-1 mm, greyish-pubescent to papillose. Staminal lobes slightly retuse or shallowly cleft; stamens free, in between staminal lobes; staminal column 2-3 mm long; filaments ca 1 mm long; anthers oblong, ca 1 mm long, medifixed. Ovary globose, 1-1.5 mm, 6-loculed; style to 2 mm long. Fruits subglobose or globose-depressed, 10-15 mm across, green; seeds usually 6, 3-gonous, ca 4 x 3 mm.

Hooghly Yesterday : what was that? :  Attachments (6 + 7 + 4). 7 posts by 3 authors.
This is 1 to 2.5 ft. herb, in a bamboo thicket.. There were some of them scattered in that place, all seemed to have started growing recently.
I think the species is Leea macrophylla Roxb. ex Hornem.
But, what are those wing like structures, on petioles, in the 3rd and last images?

…, I am assuming they are “sheaths” of “stem buds” … not sure what they are known as scientifically.
These structures seem to be commonly seen among all Leea plants.

Thank you … for informing that this is common in all Leea, and i assume that shapes and sizes are also same in all.
Will be waiting for experts to know the botanical name.

This is the most intriguing Leea species I have ever come across. Just check how many taxa of Flora Indica (1824 edition) are connected to this taxon – http://efloraindia.nic.in/efloraindia/taxonList.action?id=4923&type=4. And I have had so many insights and advices from experts on Leea!
Attached here, once again, pics of caducous stipule of this species, in Roxburgh’s word “stipule like membrane.” This “membrane” is: actually a two-layered stipule, connate distally, new leaf emerges by splitting this connate part.

Loc – Badlapur, Maharashtra. Found growing wild in open land.
Large leaves resembling those of teak but not rough.
Sprouts in Monsoon, flowers in Aug.
Dries out by Dec..

This looks like Leea cinerea [previously L.latifolia].

Thanks … for the possible ID.. As per the theplantlist.org, L.cinerea is a synonym of L. macrophylla..
But I thought the leaves of L. macrophylla are much bigger…

The plant in question here is Leea cinerea [L.latifolia].

I am still confused, I did not seem to find images of Leea cinerea on efi as well as on the net. Could you please provide some reference links?

Leea latifolia Wall. ex Kurz (as identified by …)  is a synonym of Leea macrophylla Roxb. ex Hornem.
As per Flora of China, leaves are variable in shape and size, simple, 3-foliolate, or 1-3-pinnate;
In view I find it closer to images at Leea macrophylla Roxb. ex Hornem. rather than any other species in efi so far.

Earlier you said it to be syn. of Leea latifolia

L. latifolia is a synonym of L cinerea.

Leea latifolia Wall. ex Kurz (as identified by …)  is a synonym of Leea macrophylla Roxb. ex Hornem. as per this link.
