Climbing shrubs, stems prickly. Leaves to 8 x 6 cm, broadly ovate, acuminate, base broadly cordate, coriaceous, margins crispate, 5-9 nerved; petiole twisted, to 2 cm, sheath reduced, tendrils axillary from the very base, coiled. Umbels sessile on axillary racemes. flowers unisexual; male flowers-perianth lobes 3 mm, lanceolate; filaments 1.2 mm, anthers 1 mm.

I have never noticed these thorns on a smilax stalk before.
The leaf was quite large too (like a good size betel leaf). I hope I haven’t misidentified it.

Different posts from different locations but some from same surrounding locations at different period. This one from one plant.


sometimes Nepal flora papers mention the provinces or geographical states etc of Nepal where they studied some botanical specimen etc. hence the question. if these are different locations and you are making a log of some type.
I would keep a gps location of each so it can be mapped later. hence the question
