I assume you meant, Polygala myrtifolia.

This was seen planted at various places in the places I had visited in Australia…

I hope the id is right as Polygala dalmaisiana..

Why not Polygala myrtifolia ?

I tried to find the keys and finally got it at Horticultural Flora of South-eastern Australia: Key to the species of Polygala

To me leaves appears to be alternate.
