VOF Week 270812_DS_01:
Returned from the fantastic trip to Valley of Flowers about 10 days back – Thanks to … and other team members.
Could not post my pics till now, as I am not in my city and also not with my computer. Tried to minimize the size of the pics – but not with much success.
Anyway, I think you friends will help me to identify the plants and flowers. Most of them are unknown to me.
This one was a shrub lwith tiny red berries – looks so beautiful and attractive to the birds also.
Located near the start of the treck from Govindghat to Ghangharia.
Date: 14 August’12.
Most probably Pyracantha crenulata (family Rosaceae).
Had sighted similar tree at Tapovan … posted pictures at efi thread
And I recollect seeing it at the spot you are mentioning.
I think yes, … is right
I think it is Cotoneaster sp. I will upload mine soon.
Please correct me if I am wrong.
The two look similar from a distance although Cotoneaster is not that tall. The real difference is leaves entire in Cotoneaster, crenate in Pyracantha.
Only fruits pls No flowers seen
one of the cotoneasters?
Pyracantha crenulata
The leaves crenulate
Cotoneaster leaves are totally entire.

Yes, it is Pyracantha cranulata
This shrub is common in temperate areas and fruits when ripe are edible. Not much tasty but available free and in plenty, children like them most.
And in fruit, its scarlet fruits remain on branches for very long period. Looks beautiful!
