Please can anyone name this plant.

Sorry, forgot to say it was found in a private garden in Kalimpong on 4th April 2011 at 9.45 am.

just a wild guess any Palm like fish tail palm

I think it may have been a young palm. My 2 pics were taken at ground level if I remember correctly.
Hopefully someone may confirm whether it is A Fish tail palm.

Could you please check your specimens with Wallichia densiflora? Arecaceae. Few links for your kind perusal:

Wallichia oblongifolia Girff. (syn. Wallichia densiflora Mart.) is a native palm in Uttarakhand and few individuals of it are known here. Attached picture is of a small plant seen by me near Jeoli Kot Uttarakhand.

I could not find a match at Arecaceae

so, … thinks this might be Wallichia oblongifolia? that’s dwarf fishtail palm…. how small does it have to be to qualify for a dwarf? plus any distinguishing features that are obvious in the photographs given to us?
