Caralluma adscendens var. attenuata:

This is Caralluma adscendens var. attenuata. I collected this species from Tamil Nadu.
The type species of the genus Caralluma is C. adscendens (Roxb.), a species originally described from India (Meve & Liede 2002). C. adscendens is a very variable species, which needs a complete revision. 6 varities of C. adscendens have been recognized from India. This is one of thw species among them.
A fleshy herb, among bushes in hills and on dry slopes of ghats. Branched stem, quadrangular, tapering from base to apex. Internodes glabrous; latex watery; leaves reduced to scale like structures, caducous. Flowers terminal, pedicels glabrous. Calyx 5-lobed, lanceolate, apex acute; corolla rotate, 5-lobed and spathulate.Corona staminal, biseriate. Stamens and pollinia 5. Follicles paired and glabrous.

Yes entire series of Caralluma is fascinating…
