VOF Week: Another Orchid from VOF: This is yet another terrrestrial orchid seen at VOF.
Family: Orchidaceae.
Date/Time: 08-08-2012/ 03:00PM.

Were the flowers yellow or WHITE?

To me this looks like Herminium josephi.

Beautiful Orchid Sir. I have a similar photograph and will post it in future.

I think we also got this..but in a later stage of development, floral structures were not so clearly visible…I will post this soon for validation…

did you visit Valley of Flowers OR Valley of Orchids ?

This is looks like Androcorys josephi (Rchb.f.) Agrawala & H.J.Chowdhery, Kew Bull. 65: 106 (2010).
syn name Herminium josephi Rchb.f.

Herminium josephii is a plant of Eastern Himalayas, so this one should be something else. Herminium monorchis appears more lkely.

What ever pics I have seen so far, are actually Herminium josephi and it is very well found in Uttarakhand. How it is called Androcorys josephi. The very basic difference between H. josephi and H. monorchis is the labellum which is entire in josephi and trilobed in monorchis which is very well evident in all the pics.
Ofcourse I can be wrong at times as I am looking at the pics and not the real plant in my hand.

I cannot see the live specimen of Herminium josephi till now but going through literature according to structure of lip in the pictures its Herminium josephi. H.J.Chowdhery described this species as Herminium josephi in his work Orchid Flora of Arunachal Pradesh (1998, pp 453), again Agrawala & H.J.Chowdhery described this species as Androcorys josephi (2010).

…… has pointed me to published material to convince me that Herminium josephi is found in Western Himalayas too.
Flora of China gives the impression that it is only found in E. Himalayas
