Most probably a subspecies of Rosa multiflora Thunb.

Thank you very much … for following up on this query.

And many thanks to …for the possible ID. (Is it …?)

Yes, you are right, …

He is …- great knowledge about cultivated plants.

This is Rosamultiflora Thunb.; occasional in hedges and abandoned coffee plantation in Karnataka.

According to Flora of Karnataka there are two cultivated and one wild species of Rosa in Karnataka State:

Rosaclinophylla Redout‚ & Thory (= R. involucrataRoxb. ex Lindl.) reported from Mysore, (Cultivated)Rosaleschenaultiana (Redout‚ & Thory) Wight & Arn. commonly found wild in Nilgiri and Palni Hills also reported from Karnataka and RosamultifloraThunb. (Cultivated)

Thank you very much … for getting this ID.

Many many thanks to Varun ji for elaborating on the distribution of wild and cultivated species of Rosa in and around coffee plantations of Karnataka. (By any chance, do we get to know … surname ? Is it Sharma ? May be his email ID carries his surname).
I have corrected my notes at my flickr photostream.
I had earlier labelled the posted plant as R. leschenaultiana, as it fitted the illustration in Dr T Ananda Rao’s Wild Flowers of Coorg published by Coorg Wildlife Society.on pages 34 and 35.

… pointed out the misidentification when one of our friends … contributed the correct R. leschenaultiana to FOI site.

But it is one of the blue Rose vars. Actually there no typical blue rose but what was known as blue rose were HT. Or Floribnunda roses having lilac or mauve colour. I have no idea if lately some actual blue rose has been developed.
