Bangalore 6th May

Polygonaceae member?

Did you find this plant in wild? Or was it brought from outside and cultivated?
Because the capitate head, trianguar-ovate leaves with winged petiole are pointing to Persicaria microcephala… but that plant is distributed in E. Himalaya only. Wondering how it reached Bangalore.
Comments awaited.

It is very likely that this plant is the Persicaria sp. You have mentioned.

Persicaria …??

Persicaria nepalensis, I think. The flowers can be white or pink, leaves with winged stems clasping the stem, common here at 5000m.

Persicaria microcephala (D.Don) H. Gross

Family: Polygonaceae

Thank you …! Polygonum microcephalum D. Don
Nepali Names : वन पिरे Van Pire / ढुङ्गा लहरा Dhungaa Laharaa / मसिनो ठोट्ने Masino Thotne

Thanks, … for the local names. Pl consider Persicaria microcephala as the accepted name.

Thank you … I thought the Plant List gave the correct accepted name !

Please don’t rely completely on The Plant List. So many names are still unresolved there. The Persicaria and Polygonum mystery is almost solved based on recent molecular works. I hope The Plant List will get updated soon.

What is this mystery?

Thank you … Can you please suggest any link we can fully rely on ?

For Persicaria, GRIN is better than TPL. Though none of them is 100% correct.

Persicaria …..??

Persicaria microcephala (D.Don) H.Gross is the closest match for me. The description provided in Fl. China shows slight deviation with the herbarium samples kept in Kew.

Persicaria microcephala (D.Don)  ?? or subsp.??
Please note spikes in the margin of upper leaves.
POWO says specimen collected from Nepal but did not mention distribution for Nepal.

To me appears doubtful as per images at Persicaria microcephala

Presence of eight stamens (_DSC0398) and truncate ocrea (_DSC0404) are pointing towards Persicaria microcephala (D.Don) H. Gross (Polygonaceae).
Here is the reference image:

Hope this helps.
