Achillea filipendulina (common names yarrow, fernleaf yarrow, milfoil, nosebleed)[1] is a species of flowering herbaceous perennial plant in the Asteraceae family, native to the Caucasus Mountains, in southeastern Europe.

It grows 4 ft (120 cm) high, with fern-like foliage. The leaves are linear, pinnate, lobed and serrated, hairy and rough. The flowers are arranged in corymbs, or panicles, of a complex character; they are very large, often 5 in (13 cm) across. The smaller corymbs are arched or convex, causing the cluster or compound corymb to present an uneven surface. In the species the small flowers are of rich ‘old gold’ yellow colour, and are very rigid, almost hard. The flowering period is mid to late summer.
A. filipendulina is cultivated in temperate regions as a flowering ornamental plant.
Ordinary garden loam and other soils support its growth. It is best grown in full sun, and is drought tolerant when established. Propagation is by seed or root division in spring.[2]

Good find.

Don’t know whether the flowers are fully open or not. Was searching for the description which says…

The genus Achillea comes under the group with flowers having both ray florets and disc florets

—— pappus absent.

Dissected leaves nicely seen.

Many thanks, … This one is with ray florets – not sure of the extent it would yet “open”.

Realized after posting – this flower-head has “only ray florets” !

You are correct … the flower has both ray and disc florets. I was just matching the description from book with good pictures like yours which I routinely try to do and post few of my comments with it.
