Gastrochilus distichus (Lindl.) O.Ktz. (Orchidaceae) is a temperate epiphytic orchid in the Himalaya. Here it is shot at Munsyari area (2200m asl) in Kumaon.
The leafy stems are wiry, small (less than 10cm), clustered together, bearing thicker brown spotted leaves in two rows on either side. Flowers are small, yellowish and brown spotted, originating in small two flowered leaf opposed raceme.
This species is rarely spotted in Uttarakhand.

Great shots and best narration.

Thank you all for liking these pics.

Orchids are becoming rarer indicating loss of suitable habitats. In such case, seeing an orchid in its natural habitat, flourishing well, is an exhilarating experience.

By any chance, do you have good resolution pics of these to lend me for publication?
And please show me some more pic of the epichile to confirm. Second pic is too bright on epichile, I cant check the details.

Thanks a lot for help … I will let you know when I finalize my article.

Nice photographs

Just for record, it should be Gastrochilus (not Gastrochilous)

Yes the correct spelling is Gastrochilus distichus

I found this orchid (new to me) growing on a Pyrus pashia a couple of weeks ago at an altitude of about 1850m. I think this is Distichous gastrichilus. Please confirm.
Near Dal Lake, Mcleodganj, Dharamshala, HP

Very nice and it is also a new record for Himachal Pradesh. You should get it published. Best of luck.
