Luisia evangelinae Blatt. & McCann
along NH 4A near Kalambuli on 29 MAY 11

Wonderful orchid…..

Thanks so much for sharing… you guys are too lucky to be able to travel to south India so often 🙂

Very interesting find …, perhaps we have seen one Luisia sp. when we visited Gori Valley area with … last October, but no flowers were seen.. thanks for showing this…

Is this the one called as Kathakali orchid?

L. macrantha would be apt for kathakali as found in Shrikant ji’s Further Flowers of Sahyadri … the posted one also looks a close contender!

Kathakali Orchid– Luisia evangelinae spotted at Anmod Ghat.
Thanks to … for ID..

This is not the actual Kathakali orchid.
But this is Luisia evangelinae

This orchid has been named as Dwarpal (guards that stand at the main door) by someone and it is as appropriate as the Kathakali (L. micrantha), so lets go with these 2 names.
