Kindly identify this plant growing in an unkempt agricultural field near Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu, photographed in September 2014.

Spreading prostrate about 60 cm. Reddish branches. minute yellow flower.

I think it is very difficult to say it as Corchorus urticifolius, without checking the fruits as per keys at FoPI, An Excursion Flora of Central Tamilnadu, India By K. M. Matthew (1995) and Flora of Guntur District, Andhra Pradesh, India (2000)

Yes …  Fruits are very important in identification of the Corchorus species.
