Culms ascending from a prostrate, matty base, to 30 cm; nodes glabrous. Leaf-blades flat or plicate, 3-12 x 0.05-0.12 cm, glabrous, margins apically scabrid; ligule ciliate, to 0.1 cm. Spike solitary, terminal, to 12 cm. Racemes to 1.5 cm, 3-8-spikeletted; rachis jointed, zigzag, winged. Spikelets ovate-lanceolate, to 0.5 cm; pedicels reduced, stump-like. Lower glume ovate, to 0.12 cm, obtuse, veinless; upper glume elliptic, cymbiform, to 0.45 cm, membranous, 7-9-veined; lower lemma ovate-lanceolate, to 0.5 cm, coriaceous, 5-7 veined, paleate; upper lemma lanceolate, to 0.45 cm, chartaceous, 5-veined; palea lanceolate, 2-veined.
