Shrub or small tree about 7-10 m tall, branches glabrous. Leaves simple, alternate, oblanceolate-elliptic to oblong-elliptic, 10-20 x 4-8 cm across, base cuneate, margin entire, apex deeply acute or shallow acuminate, coriaceous, dark green, glabrous above, paler glaucous beneath, lateral veins 15-20 on either side of the midrib, almost parallel, impressed above, slightly prominent on the veins and midrib beneath, reticulate veinlets fine and close, petiole slender, canaliculated, about 1-1.5 cm long. Flowers bisexual, usually solitary, axillary, drooping, greenish white, pedicels slender, glabrous or pubescent, about 1-2 cm long, bracts basal, Sepals 3, broadly ovate, somewhat triangular, base united, apex acute, brown pubescent near the apex, about 10 x 9 mm across. Petals 6 in 2 series, subequal, outer petals, linear-lanceolate, slightly clawed at the base, apex subacute or acuminate, distinct midrib, thickly coriaceous, pubescent both outside and inside, about 8-11 x 0.8-1.5 cm across, inner petals shorter and smaller, clawed and vaulted at the base, broadly ovate, brown tomentose, about 2-2.3 x 0.5-0.6 cm across. Stamens many, linear oblong, about 3.5-4 mm long, anthers distant, dorsally fixed, connectives pubescent, apiculate on the top. Carpels many, cylindrical, narrow oblong, rufous pubescent, about 5 mm long, style slender, pubescent, cylindrical, stigma bifid, ovules 4 per carpel. Ripe carpels, many, cylindrical, with constrictions of about 2-3 inbetween seeds, apex apiculate, 4-6 cm long, verrucose, stalks about 1.5-2 cm long, Seeds 1-4, ovoid, compressed, smooth, brown.
