Could the members of this esteemed group assist in the ID and historical origins of this tree, known as desi khajoor. These are part of an estimated, dense grove of 300 trees in the heart of Chandigarh-Mohali (Sector 48-49), and are threatened by urbanisation and, currently, by fires. The pix taken on Friday shows the trees burnt by fires ravaging the undergrowth.

There is a recommendation to save these trees, some of which are an estimated 100-125 yrs old, by converting this 50-acre patch into a heritage nature park.
1. Are these trees P. dactylifera or P. sylvestris?
2. How old can these trees grow?

Thanks, …, I think close ups are required for definite id.
