Kindly identify this Fern. 

Habit: Herb 

Habitat: Terrestrial, Montane forest. 

Sighting: Mullaianagiri, Chikmagalur, Karnataka, about 1500 msl 

Date: 04-06-2016


This is Leucostegia truncata (syn.: L. immersa).  Has a short-creeping, narrow underground rhizome.
Mature material is better to photograph or collect.


The Digital Flora of Karnataka lists Leucostegia truncata as a synonym of Leucostegia immersa (Hypodematiaceae)

The Plant List considers L.truncata and L.immersa as separate species…!

This fern was identified by expert as Leucostegia truncata (D. Don) Fraser-Jenk.
Was collected from Cherrapunji area of Meghalaya. 
Please help to validate the id….


Yes, that’s it, L. truncata – as for what family it REALLY belongs to instead of the cladonomic molecular mythology – well I comment no further!
