This is a long shot, but I wondered if you might be able to help me identify this plant in the bottom plane, sketched by Edward Lear in the 1870s in the Nigiri mountains.

He describes the lavender blue flowers and the height as generally 5-6 feet up to 8 -10 feet.


Though the images are not clear, apparently look likes Neelakurinji (Strobilanthes kunthiana) from Acanthaceae. Could not able to trace middle illustration.

Strobilanthes kunthiana doesn’t seem to grow as tall as Lear suggested.
