China (W-Sichuan, Yunnan), Bhutan, Sikkim, SE-Tibet, N-India (Himachal Pradesh,
Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya), Nepal as per Catalogue of Life; Herbaceous climbing annual herbs, about 1 m long. Stems slender, sulcate, hollow, glabrous. Leaves biternate, exstipulate, petiole about 1.5-3 cm long, leaflets ovate to ovate-spathulate, about 8-15 x 4-7.5 mm across, base unequally obtuse to acute, margin entire, apex obtuse to acute, terminal leaflet larger, ovate, base rounded, margin entire, apex acute or acuminate, lateral veins 3-5 on either side of the midrib, rather inconspicuous, terminal leaflets modified into tendrils, first or lowest pair almost near the base, petiolules slender, about 4-6 mm long, terminal leaflets usually replaced with the tendrils. Inflorescence raceme corymb, about 2-4 flowered, peduncle slender, bracts linear, 9-12 x 2 mm across. Flowers bisexual, zygomorphic, leaf opposed, yellow tinged with purple, about 2 cm long, pedicels about 10-20 mm long, bracteoles about 3 mm long, sepals 2, linear, 7-9 x 2 mm across, petals, linear lanceolate, faintly reflexed, about 15-20 x 8-15 mm long, outer petals broadly spurred, broad at insertion, base auricled, apex acuminate, inner petals spathuate-orbicular, base narrowly clawed, apex bifid, nectariferous glands short, curved, slender, about 2-3 mm long, Stamens 6 in 2 bundles, each bundle 2 loculed, later anthers one loculed. Ovary subglobose or elongate, unilocular, ovules few to many, style slender, stigmas flattened half moon shaped. Fruits capsules, linear-oblong, cylindric, ellipsoid, grooved, dehiscing by 2 valves in upper part, tapering at both the ends, with persistent quadrangular stigmas, about 3.5-5 x 4-6 mm across. Seeds 10-12, biseriate, orbicular, compressed, papillate, shiny, arillate. Shady areas of subtropical and temperate forests, altitude 1200-1700 m.
