Polystichum yunnanense ABFEB2017/01 : 4 posts by 2 authors. 6 images.
I saw this fern new to me on my walk a couple of weeks ago. The path I walked on still had some snow and I could not photograph very well on the slope. I collected one frond and looked at it closely using white of the snow as background. Dr Fraser-Jenkins helped me identify it as Polystichum yunnanese (the other hairier Polystichum I have filed from here is the P. squarrosum). I found another plant nearby home yesterday and photographed the scales at the bottom of the stipe.
Unlike P. squarrosum, this fern has impressions of sori on the upper surface as is clear in photographs.
