Banana-like plant for id 030311MK3: Please help to id this plant. Is this any Musaceae?
Location: nursery at Padappai near Chennai
Altitude: c. 10msl
Date: 08 Jan 2011
This plant is seen planted in a pot. My colleague told that he had seen this plant in the plains of Mudumalai wls, TN [alt: 700-850 msl].

– Other than the Musa X pradisiaca, there are only 2 species recorded from South India… Musa acuminata and Musa balbisiana and there is another one from Musaceae i.e. Ensete… this doesnt look like Ensete…but it is difficult to be sure with this picture… would be great if you can send some pictures of flowers or fruits or even Seed if possible…

– I should have mentioned… since it was in garden nursery
it can also be Musa velutina or Musa rosacea

A picture of flower would be decisive…

it is Musa sp only
