As per efi thread:
I too agree that E.brachystachyus should not be considered synonymous to E.desvauxii

¿ Enneapogon persicus ?

Dear friends,
I am aware that ID of grass cannot be attempted with photos alone; yet I am posting few photos with the hope that it can be identified at least to genus level, based on distribution and general appearance. The posted grass was growing in some patches of the park.

love the third picture esp
although i really cant help nail down the id

Thanks … And I am depending solely on the third picture – that it helps in recognizing the grass rather than identifying !

Enneapogon brachystachyus found gregariously in deserts of India and Africa. Presently, it is considered as a synonym of E.desvauxii, which is an American species. However, further study is required to analyse the similarities and differences between the two. Please see the specimen from Bikaner seen by Bor in GBCIP – (D.Gupta s.n., Bikanir (I don’t know where it is kept)). Enneapogon persicus is found in higher elevations above 1000m in dry arid slopes.

At iNaturalist, Patrick Alexander is sure that the ID of posted plant is not Enneapogon desvauxii P.Beauv. … he suggests Enneapogon cenchroides (Licht.) C.E.Hubb.

I too agree that E.brachystachyus should not be considered synonymous to E.desvauxii
E.cenchroides has a denser inflorescence with longer glumes and awns. Also four awns are shorter than the other five awns, whereas E.brachystachys has equal awns and shorter glumes. (Dissection photos with scale may confirm)
