what tree is this growing on?

is it alicve?
what other trees are in its vicinity?

was it a living tree?

Dead tree.

May be some Sparassis species as per image sand details herein.

This is not any Sparassis sp.
It is some Polyporaceae likely Trametes sp.
Sparassis sp. are soft, delicate and not such dark brown colored and hard. Moreover Sparassis crispa is generally found in temperate coniferous forest in Western Himalayas, Cedrus, Pinus and Oak are its major host trees.
I am even doubtful about other images of Sparassis crispa on site which is brownish colored with some white ring.
So i will soon share some images of true Sparassis crispa in new thread.

Can it be some Podoscypha species as per fungii for id 30 08 2011 mm1 & request for id ?
