I think it is Boehmeria macrophylla differentiated from B. scabrella (B. platyphylla var. scarella …………..now correctly known as B. japonica) :
“Perhaps the crucial difference between B. macrophylla has membranous leaves with long slender branched spikes and B. japonica characterised by thicker (papery) leaves, rugose above with raised veins and stiff erect unbranched spikes”

Another Urticaceae ABAUG2016/50 : 16 posts by 3 authors. 5 images.
This large-leaved (many leaves were more than a foot long) plant very likely belongs to Urticaceae. The leaves were shiny, each long-stalked pair perpendicular to the next one on the stem and had no stinging hairs. Stipules were prominent with new flowers beginning to come out from the leaf axils. Please help with the ID.

Thank you … I am confused between B. platyphylla and Maoutia puya. I am not sure of the difference.
Flora of Pakistan differs with FOI site in treating B. platyphylla as a different species and not as synonym of B. macrophylla. I am not sure which route to follow.

Problem arises as no one (FOC, FOP, FON or Floras of India) wants to state when they have published a particular volume of their flora in their efloras. That’s why decision becomes difficult which one to follow. However, FOC appears to be the latest.
Boehmeria platyphylla D.Don (Tropical Africa, Pakistan eastwards to China and Japan) (syn. of Boehmeria macrophylla Hornem. as per The Plant List (published in 2014) & FOC). GRIN (updated in 2004) also supports this.
ut now Catalogue of Life (released in 2016) says it to be syn. of Boehmeria virgata var. macrostachya (Wight) Friis & Wilmot-Dear & Boehmeria macrophylla (Thunb.) Hornem. is given as a syn. of Boehmeria virgata subsp. macrophylla (Hornem.) Friis & Wilmot-Dear
Further FOC say that Maoutia puya is found in Bhutan, China, NE India, Nepal, Sikkim, Vietnam & we do not have it in efi so far.
However, IBIS Flora states it to be found in HP.
To me images appears quite close to images at Boehmeria macrophylla

Another possibility of … plant could be a species of Laportea (syn. Fleurya, Urtica).

Should most likely to be a Urticaceae

This is not Acalypha indica. I am sure. The plant (A.indica) is available near my house- very common weed. The plant in question may be a type of stinging nettle

As it is from Amboli, it could be Boehmeria platyphylla Talb. (B. scabrella Gaud.) of family Urticaceae.
A common shrub more common in the rainy season (also seen in the summer season) along the edges of evergreen to semievergreen forests.
One more Boehmeria malabarica Wedd. is a small tree seen occassionally in the evergreen forests close to the water course.

I am following this page – Synonymic Checklist and Distribution of the World Flora for distribution of plants …please search for “Boehmeria virgata” and then you may check for each variety’s distribution.

In POWO Boehmeria virgata var. macrophylla the distribution is given as a large part of  the African subcontinent and var. macrostachya is recorded for India.
