India, Sri Lanka as per POWO; Terrestrial herb with short creeping rhizome, up to 0.4 cm thick, densely scaly at the apex; scales lanceolate, about 4 x 1 mm, uniformly dark brown, apex acuminate, margin entre or subentire. Stipes crowded, arranged in two rows, up to 10×0.2 cm in sterile fronds, stramiceous to greyish, flattened below, grooved above, narrowly winged laterally, sparsely scaly troughout including the rachis. Lamina simply pinnae, narrowly deltoid, up to 12 x 8 cm, progressively narrowed from the base to the apex, bearing terminal pinna slightly different from the others; pinnae up to six pairs, slightly ascending, subopposite at the base, alternate above, sessile, up to 1.5 cm apart, oblong or lanceolate, up to 5 x 1.5 cm, apex subacute, base broadly cuneate, slightly unequal, upper margin slightly convexed, margin subentire, crenate or serrate; veins slightly distinct above and below, anastomosing to form two series of larger areoles along the costa, the areoles along the costa usually free from included veinlets, while the next series of areoles enclose one or two included veinlets; pinnae glabrous above and below, dark green; texture herbaceous; fertile fronds with up to 28 x 0.2 cm stipe, fertile pinnules much contracted ones, up to eight pairs, alternate, up to 2 cm apart, up to 2 x 0.25 cm, apex rounded, margin entire, sori acrostichoid.
