Pseudobombax ellipticum (Kunth) Dugand ??

Thanks for such a prompt reply – i forgot to add that the local name of this tree is “Makchung”.

I do not think so as per images at Pseudobombax ellipticum (Cultivated)

Was it wild? where in Andamans ?

It is wild as per the person who has collected the specimens. The location is Mayabunder in the northern part of Middle Andaman Island

Isn’t it Pterospermum acerifolium?

Thanks, …, Though close, I find the fruit to be a bit different as per images at Pterospermum acerifolium

I have found a resource Common Plants of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands by Joju Alappatt. This mentions the local name of Pterospermum acerifolium as Makchun.
i attach an image of the corresponding page from the book.
(I’m not sure if sharing such an image is acceptable on this forum, since i’ve not taken permission of the author.)

This is Pterospermum aceroides Kurz

Local name: Makchun
