Perennial herbs, about 15-45 cm long, caespitose or tufted. Stem erect or decumbent, much branched, slightly quadrangular or terete, branches much crowded, pubescent with white woolly hairs, rootstock slender. Leaves simple, opposite, linear-subulate, about 7-35 x 1-2 mm across, base rounded, margin ciliate, apex acute, curved, 1 veined, glabrescent or woolly on both sides, midrib impressed above and slightly prominent beneath, succulent or not, petiole short or usually sessile, stipules absent. Inflorescence solitary, terminal or supra-axillary. Flowers bisexual, about 1.2 cm across, pedicel erect, about 1.8-2.8 cm long, bracts paired, foliaceous, margins scarious, sepals 5, lanceolate, triveined, herbaceous, margins scarious, apex acuminate, persistent, about 6 mm long, petals 5, white, slightly longer than sepals, limb bi-fid from the base, margins entire. Stamens 10. Ovary superior, unilocular rarely trilocular, ovules many, style 3. Fruit capsule, obovoid-elliptic, about 4 x 6 mm across, dehiscing with 6 valves or opening by twice the number of styles present. Seeds few, reniform or globose, compressed laterally, about 1 mm across, dark brown.
