Large shrubs to small trees; branchlets spiral, slender, deciduous. Leaves to 12 x 4 cm, lanceolate, acuminate; petiole 5 mm long; stipule ovate, acute, entire, glabrous. Flowers 10 mm long, on axillary peduncled umbels; peduncle 1.5 cm long; calyx tube obconical, teeth 4, triangular, acute; corolla tube 5 mm long, funnel form, puberulus, lobes oblong, deflexed, glabrous; stamens 4, anthers sessile, 5 mm long, linear; ovary 1-celled; ovule one or two, pendulous; style stout, stigmas 2. Berry 15 x 5 mm, ellipsoid, deep red; seed 1.
